Synopsis

Eddie Edison is the last of the Mad Scientists of New Jersey. After his father is abducted, Eddie is left foundering with no knowledge of his birthright. But when a mysterious stranger takes him under his wing, Eddie learns that not only is he the only hope of retrieving his father, but that he is the only person left to stand against the evil genius who brought about extinction of the Mad Scientists. With the imagination of Rick Riordan and the zaniness of Roald Dahl, this time traveling tale is sure to please.

About the Author

Chris Sorensen is an award-winning screenwriter, playwright and audiobook narrator with an affinity for the strange and bizarre. He's been scribbling stories ever since he was a kindergartener, never going anywhere without pen and paper. After a run-in with a commuter bus sidelined his acting career, Chris turned to writing, becoming part of the Thin Air Theatre Company, resident company at the Butte Theater in Colorado. TATC has since produced thirteen of his full-length plays (the majority to record-breaking attendance) including Dr. Jekyll's Medicine Show, Angel of the Christmas Mine, Haunting at the Old Homestead and Sherlock Holmes and the Cripple Creek Ripper. He has numerous screenplays in various stages of development, including Suckerville (Winner Writers Boot Camp Horror Fellowship), Bee Tornado (Finalist StoryPros Contest) and Triumvirate. Intrinsic Value Films (Experimenter, Blue Caprice) has tapped him to write a found footage horror script as well as a television adaptation of the same. As an audiobook narrator, he has recorded over 150 titles for Audible, Recorded Books, Hachette, HarperCollins, Penguin and others. He has received three AudioFile Earphones Awards, and his recording of Sent by Margaret Peterson Haddix was selected as one of the Best Audiobooks of 2010 by AudioFile. Chris lives in western New Jersey where he enjoys perfecting his curry recipe, searching out vintage objects for his wife's gift shop, teaching his mutts oddball tricks and generally avoiding the spooky hallway that runs past his office.

Review

"The Mad Scientists of New Jersey is a MUST read! I highly recommend." - John Lehr, actor/writer - Quickdraw (Hulu), 10 Items or Less (TBS)

"I'm a wee bit obsessed with mad scientists and their wacky gadgets and when I saw the title I knew this was something to try. Loved it! The writing is very polished and clever; the book is full of wonderful characters with several scientists of varying degrees of madness. A quirky group of kids are our heroes. Plenty of "kid empowerment" in this book but instead of Harry Potter magic or superpowers, they have technology... gadgets and gizmos that can do wondrous things. Reading it, I had flashbacks to elementary school when we'd buy various books from a school catalogue. I don't wanna spoil anything so I'll simply say that the backstory for one of the protagonists is wonderfully inventive... can't wait to see how this series develops (the way this story ends, it will surely continue)!" - Nick Sullivan, author of Zombie Bigfoot

"I was very fortunate to read The Mad Scientists of New Jersey with a keen group of fifth graders. We laughed and guffawed and wondered and fell in love with the characters. We made predictions and then were still surprised. We loved the book and were sad to see it end. I have kids very eagerly waiting for more!" - Holly Sturgill, Reading Specialist - Benjamin Franklin School, NH

"The ending was one of the best book endings I've ever read. The Epilogue really made sense and made me want to read the next book. How close is it until the second book comes out?" - Wyatt, sixth-grade student - Cresson Elementary School, CO
