In the spring of 1963 Loyola of Chicago's basketball team unknowingly was a part of the Civil Rights movement in America. Jerry Harkness, the All-American Captain was receiving threatening mail from the Ku Klux Klan. During some of their away games Jerry and his teammates were threatened and harassed by fans. They also were refused service at some restraurants and at times could not stay in the same hotels with their white teammates. Jerry gives a lot of credit to role models early in his life who prepared him to meet the challenges that would transpire through the years. One of his many highlights came during the 1963 NCAA basketball tournament. The Harlem born standout says, there is a lot more to this story in his memoir called CONNECTIONS.
