The Way Back details the power of poetry to illuminate the damage done by addiction and follows the process of recovery. As recovery in sobriety accumulates in days, months, then years, the senses open and feelings that have been anesthetized come to the surface. Those feelings are expressed in the poet's observations. The poetry is based on the true story of Michael Landfair's recovery and 29 years of sobriety. His sobriety wouldn't have been possible without the fellowship of Alcoholics. Anonymous.

Michael Landfair is a freelance writer who two years ago moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico from Portland, Oregon with his wife Beverly. The Way Back is his first publication. Michael is working currently on a book of short stories and a novel set in the Northwest. Michael has been sober since June 23, 1988.
Whether writing about his working class roots, women, temptation, war or trauma, Michael Landfair writes with confident style and an aching honesty. In The Way Back, Landfair gives us a diverse collection that illustrates in crystalline language the power of poetry to illuminate what is hidden. Herein lies a slice of life. From his mature perspective, Landfair writes of the solitude within love, tinges terror with a child’s aspect of wonder. He reveals the heartbreak of irretrievable parental relationships, the scars left by war. This compelling debut collection of poems is bound together by Landfair’s unflinching eye and the raw truth of his observations.
Florence Grende author of "The Butcher's Daughter"
Dip into this vibrant collection, for the pure pleasure of these lucent and heartfelt poems. Lyrical, crafted language and deft rhythms twine throughout passionate recollections of relationships and childhood; celebrations of the land and our shared past; and deft homages to loved poets. Landfair’s is a vivid, modern voice: his poetry, carefully honed, and wonderfully accessible.
