Synopsis
The children of the Abode know nothing of the past, future, family or home. Their world is a cold house with a bare yard, surrounded by mists. The children work, eat (never enough), sleep, and obey. Until one of them doesn’t obey. Although she believes they will kill her, a girl named Fel runs into the mists, desperate to escape. Her return, alive and well, to rescue her friend Molly, changes everything. The fight to defeat the evil force that governs the Abode ensues. From the Author
The Abode is my debut book. I've been a writer for many years--a journalist first, a writer of children's stories later. Fantasy has always been my favorite genre, so I naturally gravitated to magic and dragons for this book. I also wanted very much to offer readers strong female characters leading the way. The children and other characters in The Abode must fight for survival through perilous situations in order to learn the truth about who they really are. The Abode is, therefore, both a tale of fantasy and a coming-of-age story.

Hidden within the mists, the children of the Aboe spend their days in misery, cutting up fish. Escape means certain death, or so they've been told. The Fel, the only child who's ever run away returns--alive. The lie about escape has been unveiled, and the other children all want to flee. As the story unfolds, Fel's friend Molly must confront a beast to learn the dark secret of the Abode. Along the way, she enlists the help of a dragon, a few pirates, a parrot and the Abode's other children to defeat the evil that controls all who live there.
