From the Back Cover

Orphaned at an early age, Mahina lives on a ranch in Hawaii with her powerful Tutu (grandmother). Frightened that she will lose Mahina in the same tragic manner as she lost her daughter, Tutu forbids Mahina from learning about the Moemoea Family's mystical powers that grow with each maternal generation.

Climate change threatens the existence of their ranch built generations ago over a labyrinth of mysterious lava tubes. Will Mahina obey the Tutu she loves? Or will she obey the urgent dreams of her ancestors that build within her like lava beneath the volcanos that formed the very land where she now lives? Will she stay rooted to the soil, content to ride horses and grow vegetables as her Tutu seemingly does? Or will she rise like a goddess with her friends to forever change herself and the world?
