A book of 366 mantras or affirmations to raise and encourage the self-esteem and self-belief of children (plus adults), told through the eyes of young siblings Hao Finley Lee and Sabine Yi Lee. Written in the form of a journal and calendar, there is a mantra for each day of the month. For each mantra that Hao and Sabine want to focus on for their own personal growth, they share that with other fellow "philomaths" or knowledge-seekers through an illustration that describes for them that mantra. For them it's to: SAY it. BELIEVE it. BECOME it. MANIFEST it.

About the Author:
SB Hilarion is the author and main illustrator of the books in the Raising Young Scholars Series featuring siblings Hao Finley Lee and Sabine Yi Lee. SB enjoys sharing new things that she learns, even with those who don't ask. After all, that's what a philomath would do. She lives with her husband and children, plus some groundhogs and deer who don't pay rent.
Review:
I AM Manifesto is a simple yet multi-layered work that is sure to inspire and influence children and their parents to manifest all the greatness within them.

SB Hilarion makes vocabulary a focal point of her book. The first line is"Hello Philomaths;" she defines "philomaths" as "a seeker of knowledge; a person who loves learning and studying new facts and acquiring new knowledge." Hilarion introduces the fictional narrators of her work--Hao Finley (HF) and Sabine Yi (SY)--with a letter to her readers which includes the premise of the book. They explain that I AM Manifesto is a mantra or affirmation calendar with different words for each day of the month. Readers can use the affirmation--"I am ________ that I am"--filled in with the "word of the day," repeating it as often as they'd like.

Hilarion's mantras are not only meant to inspire, but they are meant to create and influence scholarship. She uses words like "rational,""hospitable," "contemplative," "provident,""humanitarian," and "multi-faceted." Words like these not only bring a positive mindset to children and their families, but it also increases children's vocabulary, thereby helping them comprehend better as they read.

Hilarion believes that if readers say it, they will believe it and then become it; therefore, they will manifest it.

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to parents, teachers, and adults who want a simple affirmation calendar. Sometimes adult books get complicated and riddled with sidebars and extra information that distract from the intended purpose; I AM Manifesto is a cure for that. My personal favorite is "I am investing in myself." Next to that "word of the day"is a piggy bank. For kids, every time they look at their piggy bank or see a piggy bank, they will be reminded to invest in themselves, and hopefully there will be an adult discussing how they can do so.

I love that Hilarion includes a glossary for each month; this also cultivates learning and helps with vocabulary.

One more thing that I cannot go without mentioning is that Hilarion's book is a testament to her character. Not only is Hilarion a catalyst for positive and studious youth, but she also features Maksym Turkot, a 16-year-old artist from Ukraine, in her book.

Again, I enjoyed this book, and it is one that I believe will help parents build connections with their kids and encourage positive thinking alike. (Johnna Rocker-Clinton, Seattle Book Review)

Young philomaths will enjoy learning about the meanings of fascinating words while also using meditation to grow self-esteem in SB Hilarion's I AM Manifesto. Brother-sister duo Hao Finley Lee and Sabine Yi Lee encourage readers to adopt the daily habit of embracing an empowering word through verbal repetition. The pages of this book are filled with a well thought-out list of words that easily fit into this mantra: "I am ________ that I am." Hao and Sabine recommend repeating this statement aloud, filling in the blank with the word of the day, as often as three times twice a day. I AM Manifesto offers a unique approach to motivating young people to achieve personal growth.

Hilarion has conveniently provided every month's list of affirming adjectives in a calendar format. Each month has its own page of words with corresponding, albeit amateur, illustrations drawn by Hilarion. Readers should know that the calendars do not match any given year; instead, the days of the week have been omitted so that the book can be used yearly. Hilarion has even accounted for the rare leap year by including February 29 in her calendar.

For the more challenging words, which are marked with an asterisk on the calendar, Hilarion provides a brief definition in a helpful glossary at the end of her book. The glossary includes more than 120 words, and following each vocabulary word is a syllable breakdown for that word, though a phonetic description of the word would be much more useful.

The words given in I AM Manifesto are wide-ranging. Some focus on relating to others like "sympathetic," "considerate," "amiable," and"communicative." Other words help generate a sense of personal responsibility, like "accountable," "prepared," "organized," and "punctual." Still others convey inner strength ("resilient," "impassioned," "tenacious"), individual value ("worthy," "competent," "loved"), and unique personality ("witty,""observant," "imaginative").

Hilarion has written a thoughtful, user-friendly reference book with positive messages that would make a great gift for any curious child. Everyone who takes on the I AM Manifesto challenge will certainly experience a significant rise in self-awareness. I AM Manifesto is the first of the Raising Young Scholars series by SB Hilarion. It marks the beginning of Sabine Yi Lee and Hao Finley Lee's journey as enthusiastic philomaths trying to spread their passion for learning to other young children around the world. Throughout the text, they introduce new words: one for every day of the year! They're sprinkled across fun, illustrative calendar sheets in which each day has a special word assigned to it. The brother-sister duo encourage young readers to choose one or more of these empowering words to turn into a mantra: "I am _____that I am." They repeat their mantras three times twice a day, but invite readers to choose their own personal amounts. Repeating these unique mantras, eventually engraving them in the hearts and minds of readers is meant to be an empowering and transformational act.
Sabine and Hao hope to inspire children every where to feel confident about themselves and reflect a positive self-image to the world. They write about some of their own feelings and beliefs in this dynamic piece in order to share and inspire their readers. "I am strengthening myself mentally. Bullies and tyrants make me believe more in myself daily..."This is one such example from the text of Hao's powerful words to young children. He and his sister coach their readers to "Say it. Believe it. Become it. Manifest it."

This relatively short book is both inspiring and motivational. It is perfect for use in a middle or upper elementary school classroom as a vocabulary study guide or even a writing journal. The author leaves room for readers to add short descriptions of the vocabulary words or their own, individual comments to enrich and personalize the text. I AM Manifesto can also be used to develop or supplement instruction regarding teaching young children positive character traits and/or self-esteem. Parents can use this text, as well, to help teach children the power of taking responsibility for their own actions and attitudes in order to positively affect their own lives, as well as the lives of those around them.  In addition to its multi-purpose design, I AM Manifesto is full of creative, unique artistry that illuminates the content and brings greater meaning to the words that fill its pages. The illustrations are catchy and vivid and are the work of Hilarion, along with a Ukrainian artist, adding to the multicultural facets of the book. Further, the sentiments of Sabine and Hao add intimacy and relatability to Hilarion's work. Some of their comments are simply precious, while others have a deeper aura, challenging their readers to dive into a sea of greater depth. Throughout, the content stays true to the duo's ultimate mission: to inspire youth to believe in themselves and to passionately love learning, as genuine philomaths do! (Jennifer Padgett, Manhattan Book Review)

Let me begin by being very frank: I AM Manifesto by SB Hilarion is the most unusual and unique book for children that I have ever reviewed. It's not page after page of beautiful illustrations and a cute story line. It's a book that is created instead for "philomaths". What is a philomath? A philomath is "a seeker of knowledge", an older child perhaps who just loves learning and enjoys discovering and adding new words to his/her vocabulary. Well, those children will certainly be able to do that with I AM Manifesto
Set up as a monthly calendar, readers can learn a new word suggested for each day of the month and make it their own, not just as part of their now expanding vocabulary, but also to keep them thinking positively about themselves. That's the "manifesto" purpose of this book. The mantra children are encouraged to use is "I am that I am". Now, insert the word that describes you on that day. For instance, "I am studious....empowered...optimistic... conscientious" etc. In a way, I AM Manifesto is a means of getting into the practice of giving yourself encouragement and positive reinforcement daily...a worthwhile habit not just for children but for adults as well.

SB Hilarion has included a Glossary of all the words introduced at the end of this clever little book, a handy quick reference on how to pronounce the words and remember what each means. If your son or daughter is one of those philomaths mentioned above, they will love exploring the world of words offered by this book and discussing, perhaps with mom and dad, which words best describe them. Have fun! (Viga Boland for Readers' Favorite)

I AM Manifesto by SB Hilarion is an uplifting book for both children and adults with 366 affirmations that will help to build self-belief and self-esteem. Narrated in the form of a journal through the eyes of Hao Finley and Sabine Yi Lee, this book will enable readers to SAY it. BELIEVE it. BECOME it. MANIFEST it. The affirmations, or mantras, are empowering and there is one for every day of the calendar year and readers can also create their own mantras. Let us join Hao and Sabine as they share their mantras with the other Philomaths and repeat their mantras three times twice a day. I like the way the author approaches the topic; she makes it child-friendly and also makes it easy for adults to practice. The illustrations in the book and the chart for each month are helpful when it comes to organizing and mentally preparing the mantras for every single day of the year. It is definitely a good book for all those who lack self-confidence and want to improve their lives. The glossary at the end of the book is useful when it comes to understanding some of the terms in the book. Readers can organize their calendar and make their own 366 mantras, and start living positively and communicating better with the people around them. Tutors and parents can keep a journal in the classroom and at home and encourage children to use these mantras or create their own to become empowered. (Mamta Madhavan for Readers' Favorite)
