Synopsis

The Flying Dutchman is a romantic opera in three acts, composed by Wilhelm Richard Wagner in 1876. The story follows the legend of the cursed Captain of a ghostly ship, the Flying Dutchman, who is doomed to sail the seas for eternity until he finds a woman who will love him faithfully until death. The opera is set in a small Norwegian coastal village, where the Dutchman arrives seeking redemption and meets Senta, a young woman who is fascinated by the legend of the cursed captain. The two fall in love, but their relationship is threatened by the jealous Erik, who is also in love with Senta. With its themes of love, redemption, and the supernatural, The Flying Dutchman is a powerful and haunting work that has become a staple of the operatic repertoire. Wagner's rich and dramatic score, which includes the famous overture and several memorable arias and choruses, has made The Flying Dutchman one of the most beloved operas of all time. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
