About the Author

Jim Akers is a decorated combat Vietnam Veteran, awarded two Bronze Star medals , numerous other medals and citations while serving in the 9th Infantry Division in the Vietnam war from 1968 through 1969, also a retired professional photographer from Mt. Airy, North Carolina, also known as (Mayberry) Andy Griffith's hometown as well.. Jim wrote his first book, One Soldiers Story in 2012 basically to leave a record or legacy for his children and grandchildren a small part of his history and show the horrible un-glamorous aspects of war. Later that same year, he wrote a more in depth version called Soldiers Story with additional stories and more pictures he made while in Vietnam. By the the writing bug had bitten and he wrote Deceitful Attraction, a bitter sweet but humorous book about his two marriages to the same woman during his eventful life.

.This is a very honest and painful story. It was almost difficult to read as I thought about my loved ones who experienced this war, as well as the unwelcome reception they received upon returning home. It's no surprise that so many soldier don't want to speak of this time. Thanks to Jim Akers ..Mikki M.

Interesting story, grew up near Ft.Bragg and Jim's story is factual. The training is very trying for the young recruits and they are trained to be tough and deadly. The picture of the Vietnam war and the feelings back home were on target. Its about time we welcomed the Vietnam Vets back home..Henry Farell
