About the Author:
Geb. 28.9.1840 Kranichfeld/Ilm; gest. 21.9.1905 Meiningen. Der Sohn eines herzoglichen Hofarztes von Sachsen-Meiningen studierte 1860-64 Naturwissenschaften in Leipzig, Würzburg und Heidelberg, wo er promovierte; anschließend arbeitete er als Lehrer in Graz und Brünn und als Hauslehrer in Görz und Triest, dort gab er 1870-81 die Alpenvereinszeitschrift Enzian. Ein Gaudeamus für Bergsteiger heraus. Seit 1881 lebte er als freier Schriftsteller. 1885 kehrte er nach Meiningen zurück, erhielt eine Bibliothekarsstelle, wurde 1888 Hofrat. Reisen führten ihn nach Griechenland, Ägypten, Italien und in die Türkei. Er war einer der populärsten Autoren der 1880er Jahre; sein VerseposZlatorogerlebte über 100 Auflagen und Bearbeitungen (u.a. als Oper und Kantate). Im Projekt Gutenberg-DE vorhanden
