Not illustrated. 1900 Excerpt: ... Cyphers. Yours very truly, THE SPRING LAKE DUCK AND BROILER RANCH. On the opposite page are shown views of one of the largest and most successful duck ranches in existence. It 1s located at Harrisburg, Pa., and is owned by the Spring Lake Poultry Co., C. A. Stouffer, manager. Mr. Stouffer has been in the business seven years. During the season of 1898-99 he hatched 3o,28o ducks--an unusually large number; but during the season of 1899-19oo he exceeded this by nearly twenty-five per cent., hatching 37,55o ducklings, the largest number hatched thus far during one season by any duck grower. Writing to the Cyphers Company, under date of October 12, 19oo, he said: "I have raised about 27.ooo docks out of the 3o,28o hatched this year. This I call very good. I attribute the small mortality to a iroper incubator. Ducks hatched in the Cyphers Incubators oofc like balls of yellow silk, and these I find are the strongest and best ducks. I have visited a number of large plants the past summer, and find that the Cyphers is the machine giving the best satisfaction, and, therefore, is the one most in demand. Ever since I have been in the business I have been trying, in other incubators, to overcome the air currents in the egg chamber. I did not fully succeed; but your incubator has solved this problem by the introduction of the diffusive method." In the foregoing letter Mr. Stouffer reports the fact that he will use forty of the largest-size Cyphers Incubators the present season, and wishes that all of the seventy-six machines he owns were of this Company's make. Mr. Stouffer spent several weeks visiting the largest and most successful duck and broiler farms in the country before he decided on his plans.
