Haliburton, Mr. Beaugrand, etc. He also referred to the colonies of.Norsemen, Russians, Hungarians, Roumanians, Chinese, etc., settled in Western Canada, all with strongly marked racial features in their social, religious and industrial life. Finally, the essayist Called attention to the mass of virtually forgotten lore to be found in the works of Champlain, the Jesuits' Rolations, Charlevoix, de Gaspe", the writings of. travellers, Nor. After a short discussion, Mr. Frechette read a paper, entitled "La Corriveau," based on a double murder and two-fold trial--the latter of which took place in the year 1763, near the close of the Rigne Militairet and was a striking illustration of the legal barbarism of the time.
