This book is deeply moving. It has something of the feel of St Therese of Lisieux's "Story of a Soul," thought told from a third person perspective. The tone is a bit hagiographic, but the sisters' estimation of Mary Ann's deep and supernatural faith and other virtues is counterbalanced by their frankness about her humanity. The last chapters, which deal with her final passion and death, are especially compelling.
