"Based on many years of teaching international relations courses and long-time collaboration between the authors, this major new text provides an authoritative introduction to international relations and to the long-standing questions that have engaged generations of IR scholars and students. Boxed features in each chapter help students navigate the 'levels of analysis', view the world from multiple perspectives, and 'make connections' between theory and practice, past and present, and aspirations and reality"--

Joseph Grieco is Professor of Political Science at Duke University, USA. He has been Karl W. Deutsch Visiting Professor at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin, Germany; and since 1996 he has been a Visiting Professor at the Catholic University of Milan, Italy.
G. John Ikenberry is the Albert G. Milbank Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University, USA. He is also Co-Director of Princeton's Center for International Security Studies and a Global Eminence Scholar at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea.
Michael Mastanduno is Nelson A. Rockefeller Professor of Government at Dartmouth College, USA. He has been Visiting Professor at the Catholic University of Milan and the University of Tokyo, Japan.
"Clearly written, comprehensive, and superbly organized, Grieco, Ikenberry and Mastanduno have set a new standard of excellence for IR textbooks." - Jonathan Kirshner, Cornell University, USA
"Does exactly what a good introductory text should: engages the subject's enduring questions, guides readers through the maze of competing arguments, and shows the real world relevance of theoretical debates. An impressive achievement." - Dale Copeland, University of Virginia, USA
"There are many good introductions to IR. There are even some very good books to be found scattered around this most crowded of fields. But this new volume by three of IR's best must surely now become the gold standard against which all other similar books on the subject will be measured. I can think of no other entry point into the subject I would recommend ahead of this one." -Michael Cox, London School of Economics and Political Science, UK
"For any student interested in learning to think seriously about international politics, this book by three leading IR scholars is invaluable. It is theoretically informed, fair-minded, and deals smartly with the big issues policymakers faced in the past as well as those they face today." - John J. Mearsheimer, University of Chicago, USA
