The first edition of this book was written in 2005 to fill a big hole on the interpreting literature market. At the time the only book that addressed note-taking in consecutive in any sort of user-friendly fashion was Rozan's 1958 classic La Prise de Notes... It was out of print entirely in French and my own translation into English for Tertium in Cracow in 2003 was not easy to get hold of). In any case consecutive had come a long way in the mean time and there were dozens of tricks and tips out there that had never been compiled in a single volume. This second edition, 10 years after the first, includes two entirely new chapters and some general tweaking that reflect 10 more years of teaching, reading and thinking about consecutive interpreting. The sister book, Consecutive Interpreting - A Short Course is out in February 2019.
Andrew Gillies has worked as a freelance conference interpreter for more than 20 years. He works from French, German and Polish into English at a number of EU and European institutions as well as for private clients. He has a background in Teaching English as a foreign language and when not conference interpreting has trained conference interpreters at numerous universities around Europe as well as at for the European Parliament and the International Association of Conference Interpreters.
