Excerpt: ...After the great humiliation to me as lawyer and public official of having found the demoralizing conditions existing in the McCurtain County Court, during the administration of T. J. Barnes as a County Judge, and which fortunately will not occur again during the administration of the newly appointed County Judge, Honorable E. E. Cochran of McCurtain County, it is refreshing to be able to report just the opposite conditions existing in Okmulgee County. In Ok-mulgee County the people were fortunate enough to elect a young man, George A. Johns, as Judge of the County Court. Judge Johns is a young man full of laudable aspirations and ideas and has shown himself to be a man of integrity and full of courage, not afraid of the unworthy criticism of men who are offended by his fearlessness as an upright judge, and has shown himself to be anxious to protect the welfare of the children in the County of Okmulgee, irrespective of any personal hardships that it may work upon himself. In many an instance this brave and courageous Judge has held Court, beginning at 8:30 o'clock in the morning and continuously until 12:00 o'clock midnight, to my own experience, just in order to save the State the necessity of again having to send the General Attorney of the Department of Charities and Corrections and to have to pay twice the expenses, so that this is actually an economy to the people of the State and the people of Okmulgee County, who as tax payers contribute to the necessary expenses of the State government. I do not hesitate to hold up the County Judge of Okmulgee County as an example to every other Judge in the State of Oklahoma, and so long as he will act in the manly and courageous and just manner, the way he is acting, just so long will I hold him up as an...
