Not illustrated.1887 Excerpt: ... the highest honors of her class; and was married, Sept. 13, 1863, to Walter Beaumont Clarkson, Principal of the Palmetto Academy, situated at Sand Hill, on the Columbia and Charleston Railroad. He was Colonel commanding the North Carolina Military Institute, at Charlotte, and died May 8, 1875. His wife is the Preceptress of a prominent Seminary in that State. Dr. Gillison served four years as aid-de-camp to Governors Hammond and Aiken, with the title of Lieut.-Colonel. After his return from Mexico he received a medal from the City of Charleston, and another from the State of South Carolina, in honor of his services in Mexico. He has prepared a still unpublished pamphlet on Biliary Derangements, entitled "Vena Porta--Porta Malorum." He has edited a work entitled "Gems of Poetry," by Mr. Clarkson, his son-in-law. He also gives the title of another unpublished pamphlet, entitled "The Mineral Rock and Mondamin in 1867." The Doctor wrote in 1872 that he was interested in Sundayschools and in improving the condition of the colored population in his agricultural district. In June, 1882, he writes: "Say to my old Classmates that, although we may have political differences of opinion, may we be ever faithfully united as a band of brothers on account of our sincere affection for our Alma Mater." Dr. Gillison and wife resided in Augusta, Ga., in 1883-4, where he engaged in the practice of his profession. In the fall of 1884 he removed to Aiken, S. C, where he now resides with his son Daniel B. He is still ready to minister to all the ills that flesh is heir to, and at the same time is diligently engaged in the business of horticulture.
