THE LATTER DAYS OF MOSES. M. The children of Israel were now about to enter the land of Canaan. They had only to cross over the river Jordan, and they would really be in that land, for which they had looked so long. And now the time was come in which it pleased God that his servant Moses should die: for B.C. you remember God had said, that he should 1451. not enter the land of Canaan. And though Moses grieved that he could not go over, and see that good land and fair, which God had promised to his people, yet he was willing to die, if it were God's will. But, before his death, he called all the people of Israel together, to talk to them once more, to put them in mind of all that God had done for them, and to entreat them to serve and love God. Moses loved the children of Israel; and the last moments of his life were spent in doing them good. And Moses told them, that they were now about to go over Jordan, and enter that land which God had given them: and he begged them, when they got there, and were happy, and at ease, and full of blessings, not to forget the Lord their God, but to bless him for the good land which he had given them.
