The Book of the Lover and the Beloved is a spiritual text written by Ramon Lull, a 13th-century Spanish philosopher and mystic. The book is a dialogue between the lover and the beloved, exploring the themes of love, devotion, and spiritual transformation. The lover seeks to understand the nature of love and the beloved, while the beloved guides the lover towards a deeper understanding of the divine. Through their conversations, Lull explores the idea of divine love as a transformative force, leading the lover towards a state of union with the beloved. The book is written in a poetic and allegorical style, drawing on the traditions of Christian mysticism and Sufi poetry. It is considered a classic of medieval mystical literature and continues to be read and studied by scholars and spiritual seekers today.1923. Lull lived back in the 13th century, not long after the days of St. Francis of Assisi, whose disciple he was. His mystic writings are full of the purest and noblest spirituality, compounded with the quintessence of love. Lull was no cloistered visionary. His life was full of romance and adventure, so crowded with incident is it that many pages will not suffice to even summarize its principal happenings. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Ramon Llull (1232 – 1315) was a Majorcan mystic known by many names and for many things. His name is often Anglicized as Raymond Lully or Raymond Lull; and Latinized as Raimundus or Raymundus Lullus or Lullius. He is also famously referred to as Doctor Illuminatus. Llull was a philosopher, logician, poet, theologian, Franciscan tertiary, and is credited with writing the first major work of Catalan literature. He is also considered a pioneer of computation theory, especially as we know of his influence on Leibniz. Within the Franciscan Order he is honored as a martyr. He was beatified in 1847 by Pope Pius IX. Azafran Books was established with a clear aim in mind – to make available a selection of classic books for today’s contemporary readers.
