Among the most conspicuous was Frederick Lindau, a private of the second light battalion, who although bleeding profusely from two wounds in the head, stood firmly at the small door of the barn, and from thence defended the main entrance. Baring, seeing that the cloth about his head was not sufficient to stop the effusion of blood, repeatedly called upon him to go back; but Landau regardless of his wounds, as of a large bag of gold which he had taken from the enemy, and carried about his person, refused to stir from the spot, "saying: " He would be a scoundrel that deserted you, so long as his head is on his shoulders"! This gallant fellow was afterwards taken prisoner and lost 1815-his treasure. June.
