Not illustrated. 1886 Excerpt: ...have been occupied by father and son successively; Speaking again of Mr. Pagan's literary works, undoubtedly his best is one that the worthy author was engaged upon for many years, and only fiuished shortly before his decease on the 26th May, 1867, at the comparatively early age of 50 years. However, the author's "copy" was handed to a firm of printers at Derby, and in the year of Mr. Pagan's death.a handsome volume of 476 demy octavo pages was published, bearing the running title, "The Principles of Religion Set Forth in a Commentary on the Church Catechism, with Scriptural Proofs." This work--which has received excellent criticisms for the many valuable evidences relating to the subject therein collected and collated--will be found of almost indispensible utility to the clergy of the Established Church, and also to others labouring in Sunday schools connected therewith, towards the moral and religious advancement of those committed to their especial care. Many small theological works have been published during the past ten or twelve years by the Rev. T. Boston Johnstone, of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Bowker's-row, Bolton--the first being on the "Harmony of the Gospels," printed in London in 1874. Notwithstanding the fact that the bulk of his writings find their origin in the Scriptures, Mr. Johnstone has not entirely confined his labours to that class of literature, for in 1884 his attention was directed to "Scotland: its Motto and its People," a subject most interestingly dealt with in a little book bearing that title, printed at the Ouardian Office, in this town.
