The main objective of this research was to determine an optimum processing system for the RASCAL (Reconfigurable Airborne Sensor, Communication and Laser) pod being developed by the United States Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, California. Further goals were to examine the peripheral equipment that integrates most efficiently with the processor and the host sensor equipment. To meet these goals, pertinent information regarding the pod features and the required mission characteristics of the processor were gathered. Suitable options based on the information were compiled, and a processor presenting a balance of current performance and future opportunities was selected. Individual components were highlighted, resulting in a proposed processor system and purchase option.
