Griffith Borgeson, born in 1918, was an influential American racecar historian, described by the Society of Automotive Engineers as one of the world's preeminent automotive historians. His most well-known work, The Golden Age of the American Racing Car, almost single-handedly rescued the memory of an entire era of brilliant racecar work in the United States. Borgeson was editor-in-chief of Motor Trend magazine; he also wrote for Sports Car Illustrated magazine (now Car and Driver), and Automobile Quarterly. He was the recipient of several writing awards, including the "best book of the year" award from the Society of Automotive Historians, Cugnot Award.
