H. S. Shan is Emeritus Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. He graduated in 1966, earned his Master's degree in production engineering with Honors, and obtained his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering in 1972. Later he did his Post-doctoral research at Loughborough University of Technology receiving a British Council's Fellowship, 1976–77. The author has more than 38 years of teaching and research experience at the University of Roorkee and Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee). He has taught courses including Advanced Manufacturing Processes, Production Planning and Control, Production Technology and Work System Design at undergraduate and graduate level. He has published one book titled Modern Machining Processes (1982) and more than 175 research papers in national and international journals/conference proceedings.
