I watched a TED talk last year where the speaker shared that one third of all women are victims of domestic violence at some point in their lives. A staggering statistic, but if you ask your friends about this at your next girls' visit, you might be surprised how many of them open up about those kinds of experiences in their past. Inspired by their stories, and the bravery it takes to confront an abuser or find a way out of a toxic relationship, I began thinking about my heroine who had a violent experience in her past. 

Emma Layton is three years out of her troubled relationship when The Forbidden Brother begins, but the memories of that time in her life remain. Some women cope by burying the past deep and trying to forget. But Emma took a different path, finding healing in a surprising career change that empowered her. Being a stunt woman allows her to confront danger-- and win. I couldn't help but cheer her on, even though I would never be able to tackle some of the things she does! Sometimes we are surprised by our own strengths when life requires it of us.
