His vigorous life had other spheres, however, which figure among the hundred or so recollections in this book, some reprinted from out-of-the-way sources for the first his Civil Service career in the Post Office over thirty years, travels in America, Australia and South Africa, his hunting days, his membership of the London clubs, and his early days at Harrow and Winchester.
