After I was treated for prostate cancer in 2004, I wrote a book about it, "Don't Fear the Big Dogs." In early 2010, I had a liver transplant and as a consequence of the lengthy (three month) hospital stay, I acquired a dependency on oxycodone. I decided to write another book, incorporating the experience of transplant with the experience of prescription drug dependency and withdrawal from it. The book squarely explains the difference between addiction and dependency and offers my own step-by-step plan which I used with success. My hope is that this book may help others who may find themselves in a similar situation.

About the Author:

Bill Vancil grew up the small town of Kewanee, Illinois. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University and Augustana College. For over thirty years he lived in Madison, Wisconsin. Following a long career at Mid-West Family Broadcasting, as an announcer, program director, and vice-pres/general manager, he was inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame. He now lives in Arizona, where he is self-employed as a graphic designer, freelance writer, and voice-over talent. In 2004, Bill was treated for prostate cancer at Loma Linda University Proton Treatment Center. His first book was about this journey. "Don't Fear the Big Dogs" was published in 2005. Bill was featured in twenty-five Barnes & Noble book signing events around the country and appeared on more than seventy radio and television interviews discussing the book, one of the first to incorporate facts about proton radiation treatment. Appointed to the International Advisory Council of Loma Linda's Proton Center, Bill served in that capacity for ten years. Bill Vancil has visited every state in the union, except Alaska, and has toured over fifteen foreign countries. He is an accomplished graphic designer, painter, and photographer. In 2009, he published a charming children's book, "Roy and Kitty." Soon after the publication of this book, Bill was admitted to the hospital where he spent over three months, undergoing two liver transplants and weeks of rehabilitation. During that hospital stay he acquired a dependency upon oxycodone. That is what this latest book, "Almost an Addict," is about.
