Synopsis

Navigating the transitions to the future of AI―Integrity over Intelligence

Envision a world where artificial intelligence can deliver integrity-led outcomes seamlessly, adapting to diverse cultural context, value models, and situational nuances, countering subconscious biases, all while operating in an advanced human-centered manner. This is the promise of Artificial Integrity.

In Artificial Integrity, digital strategist, technologist, doctoral researcher, acclaimed management thinker, and seasoned business executive Hamilton Mann emphasizes that the challenge of AI is in ensuring systems that exhibit integrity-led capabilities over the pursuit of mere general or super intelligence.

Mann tackles the inadequacies of traditional ethical frameworks in handling the complexities of new AI technologies to make them trustworthy and reliable as they profoundly impact human lives.

Introducing the transformative concept of “artificial integrity,” Mann proposes a paradigm shift, defining a “code of design” to ensure AI systems align with, amplify, and sustain human values and societal norms, maximizing integrity-led AI outcomes.

Artificial Integrity discusses practical insights into driving a future where AI enhances, without replacing, human capabilities while being inclusive and reflective of diverse human experiences, emphasizing human agency.

The book offers:

  • Guiding posts and step-by-step solutions for designing, implementing and continuously aligning AI development to responsibly advance human and artificial co-intelligence
  • Strategies and actionable advice for integrating AI into business and societal structures
  • Practical paths toward managing the transition to the future of AI for human productivity and decision-making while maintaining sustainable trustworthiness

Artificial Integrity is essential for anyone involved in AI development, from executives, business leaders, and managers to entrepreneurs, tech enthusiasts and policymakers. It's also perfect for laypeople interested in how AI intersects with society. From the Back Cover

Artificial Integrity is more than a book; it’s the dawn of a new interdisciplinary field of science for the future. Hamilton Mann’s concept of Artificial Integrity is a call to action with sharp guidelines and well-articulated framework for executing what AI can and should be.”
―SOUMITRA DUTTA, PhD, Peter Moores Dean and Professor of Management, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and a Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford

“This insightful concept and framework of Artificial Integrity coined by Hamilton Mann represents a paradigm shift and an essential playbook for leaders wishing to steer AI development toward a human-centered future. Read this book to understand, but more importantly, to act for the development of AI designed not simply to produce more Artificial Intelligence, but to uphold more integrity.”
―LUC JULIA, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer, Renault Group, co-creator of Siri, Member of the French Academy of Technologies

“In this important and timely book, Hamilton Mann proposes the radical new concept of Artificial Integrity―the purposeful alignment of Artificial Intelligence with human moral codes and social norms―and argues it should be baked into the code at the very heart of this new technology. Mann provides practical strategies for business leaders, managers, and policymakers to lead through this technological revolution. I urge everyone who cares about our collective future as humans to read this book.”
―MICHAEL PLATT, PhD, Director of the Wharton Neuroscience Initiative and Professor of Marketing, Neuroscience, and Psychology, the University of Pennsylvania

“As someone wary of AI hype, I found Hamilton Mann’s Artificial Integrity refreshingly practical. Unlike works focused on AGI or broad ethical principles, Mann provides concrete strategies for embedding integrity into current AI systems. Drawing on global perspectives and bridging academia and business, this essential read offers a forward-thinking perspective on ethical AI implementation, and will significantly influence responsible AI development and deployment.”
―ANAND S. RAO, PhD, Distinguished Service Professor of Applied Data Science and AI, Carnegie Mellon University

From the Inside Flap

The products of intelligence, whether human or artificial, do not necessarily and inherently ensure safety for individuals, acceptance by society, or sustainability. Essential is not merely more intelligence, but adherence to values that govern its power for what is right and good. Our ability to consistently align our actions, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes with human values determines how we choose to mobilize intelligence, even when no one is watching. This inner system is critical to act not just intelligently but, most importantly, with integrity.

AI is not immune to the need for such a system.

While much has been done on ethical AI, setting rules does not rule out the need for application. Not only should AI be guided by rules, but it must also constantly adhere to them, functioning not just by its algorithmic power but governed by an operating system that enables its ability to be consistent in actions, methods, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes with regards to human values, even when no one is watching. For AI to function beneficially, whether for individuals or society, one imperative must prevail: Integrity over Intelligence.

Artificial Integrity is the new AI.
