Review
While Christian parents agree that helping children to understand who God is is of the utmost importance, many struggle to find the words to explain the gospel to them. John MacArthur has successfully written a concise yet complete account of the gospel message in I Believe in Jesus, written entirely for young minds and hearts. With stirring watercolor illustrations from Melinda MacArthur, the author's daughter, I Believe in Jesus will hold the attention of little ones as well as communicate the most important message they will ever hear. Beginning at creation and moving through to eternity, MacArthur speaks directly to children in simple language by bringing theology (even tough subjects like the trinity) to a basic level. Pointed questions that ask, "Have you ever noticed how hard it is to always be good, kind, loving, and unselfish?" point out the child's need for a savior, while insightful answers give hope to young readers, saying, "Our sins should keep us out of heaven, but instead, God invites everyone--you too!--to come to Him and ask for forgiveness for our sins." As the child matures, he or she will begin to understand the Word of God in accordance with the childlike explanation coupled with it. This is sure to bring understanding that leads to wisdom (and hopefully repentance!) rather than the knowledge of a good story. About the Author
JOHN F. MACARTHUR pastors Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, and serves as president of the Master's College and Seminary. A well-known Bible expositor and conference speaker, he has written more than six dozen books, including the MacArthur New Testament Commentary series and the MacArthur Study Bible. He is the Bible teacher on Grace to You, an international radio broadcast.
