Smart, sexy, a master thief and occasional thorn in Batman's side, Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman, is now protector of Gotham City's downtrodden, down-at-heel and down-on-their-luck, in this ongoing superhero noir series. Having stopped a prostitute-murdering serial killer in Catwoman: The Dark End of the Street, Catwoman is now faced with tackling a group of corrupt cops attempting to turn stolen heroin into uncut diamonds. Can Selina pull off the switch of a lifetime? Batman writer Ed Brubaker and Emmy Award-winning artist Brad Rader get to grips with the new-look Catwoman in this dark, character-driven, costumed crime drama.

From Booklist:

Batman's once-arch-foe Catwoman first appeared in 1940. A recent revamp gave her a new, Emma Peel-inspired black-leather costume and a new role. Originally a bored socialite-turned-cat-burglar, she now walks the line between hero and villain as a vigilante who protects Gotham City's downtrodden. In these stories from the monthly Catwoman, she is on the trail of a drug dealer who uses kids as mules transporting drugs across the border. When an undercover narc is killed by crooked cops, Holly, a former teen junkie and hooker who is now Catwoman's legman, is framed for the murder, and Catwoman must bring the real culprits to justice. Eschewing costumed villains and fantasy elements, and drawn in an angular, economical style derived from the popular Batman animated cartoons, Catwoman aims more at a more mature readership than that for a standard superhero comic. It is one of the most rewarding mainstream comic books going today, and the forthcoming Catwoman movie, starring Halle Berry, should boost interest in the character's original version. Gordon Flagg
