Gr. 8-up. Nakio wants to follow his family's legacy and become a ninja. When his grandfather sends him in search of the ruthless Mikaboshi to test his training, Nakio thinks his heroic dreams are about to come true. Unfortunately, his hopes come crashing down when Mikaboshi asserts his power by killing Nakio's brothers. Joined by the drunken Sake, Rack-lo the thief, and Kura the forest girl, Nakio sets out on an adventurous path to avenge his family and bring down the powerful villain. With Warner's quick dialogue and unapologetic humor balancing the darker moments of the plot, this collection of the first six issues of Ninja Boy is an entertaining story that will particularly please fans of Japanese anime. The art is well executed and has a sure sense of movement from panel to panel that adds to the story. In true anime style, this isn't afraid to be over the top. Tina Coleman
