Sent off to be raised by a robot nanny on the isolated island of Attabar Teru by his father, who is determined to create the perfect son, and later adopted by the Attabar Teru tribe, Tom Strong becomes a super hero in Millennium City.

Alan Moore is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking writing on Watchmen, Batman: The Killing Joke and V for Vendetta. He is currently working on the ABC line of comics, which also includes Tomorrow Stories, Promethea, Top Ten and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (all published by Titan). Chris Sprouse has worked on such diverse titles as HammerLocke, Glory, Legion of Super-Heroes, Starman, Legionnaires and WildC.A.T.s/Altens.
Of the characters Moore created in his late 1990s return to mainstream comics, "science hero" Tom Strong best expressed the fun that Moore wanted to restore to the costumed-adventurer genre. Analogous to 1930s pulp hero Doc Savage, Strong was raised in a science experiment on a remote island. Having achieved physical and mental perfection and relocated to Millennium City, he fights assorted threats to civilization, assisted by wife Dahlua, headstrong daughter Tesla, robot manservant Pneuman, talking ape King Solomon, and the Strongmen of America, his youthful fan club. In this collection, three-eyed space cowboy Coleman Grey comes to warn Strong about an army of billions of giant, alien ants intent on enslaving Earth, which prompts a good old-fashioned intergalactic battle. Tom Strong could be a mere pastiche, but Moore's clever conceptualizing and deft characterization make it one of the most purely enjoyable comics on the stands today. The art, mostly by Chris Sprouse, has a crisp clarity that accentuates the title's traditionalism while seeming thoroughly modern.
