About the Author:
Jack Erjavec has become a fixture in the automotive textbook publishing world. He has decades of experience as a technician, educator, author, and editor, and has authored or co-authored more than 30 automotive textbooks and training manuals. Erjavec holds a master's degree in vocational and technical education from Ohio State University, and he spent twenty years at Columbus State Community College as an instructor and administrator. A long-time affiliate of the North American Council of Automotive Teachers, he also served as executive vice-president for the organization and spent several years on its board of directors. Erjavec is also associated with ATMC, SAE, ASA, ATRA, AERA, and other automotive professional associations.
Jeff Arias has spent 29 years as an engineer in the field of electric and hybrid vehicles, and and additional four years in fuel cells. During this time he has done research, consulting, design, construction, and testing on over 40 different vehicles, including EVs and HEVs of his own design. He has worked with major organizations, including General Motors on their hybrid program, Exide on a new EV battery, Yamaha on their first electric golf car, Disney on electric powered rides, and Southern California Edison on setting up their first EV fleet. He has published over a dozen papers on electric vehicles and EV batteries, has been a lecturer at UCLA for three years in a seminar on EVs, and recently developed and taught an original course on electric and hybrid vehicles for the Automotive Technology Program at Cerritos College in Southern California. He is currently Vice President of Product Development for a company developing advanced lithium batteries.
