MEET BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FRIDDLEThe hero of this narrative is a precocious schoolboy who was given a dictionary by his parents when he was very young. In spite of learning the meaning of many new words, he and Jamie conspired to speak like the young man they idolized who spoke with very bad grammar. This gradually became harder, but they both tried very hard not to sound like a girl. Frankie is persuaded to adopt a different imperative through his teacher, who had more understanding of the boys than they could have supposed. In 1987, the book was written to amuse my mother who seemed to enjoy hearing each episode as it developed. The narrative was rejected by several publishers, so I recorded it on an audio tape, which I gave to my grandchildren. And I made a hard copy, which stayed on a shelf until after I received word from 1stBooks. The interest of my grandchildren interested me. Several parts were extremely funny when read aloud to them. Although it is fiction, it might be useful in persuading readers that the uses of good grammar might be necessary for success in modem society.Recent gaps in SAT scores could easily be society's heritage from an erroneous assumption. No language is likely to equal proper English in the American job market. This book may help readers to realize that bad grammar could limit the perception of academic perfectionists who happen to hear job applicants speak. Please let me know whether I should develop another thing I regard as fact: true wisdom is often overlooked in persons who differ from ourselves.

Raymond F. Rogers was born in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1923, and served in the Army Air Force during W.W.II and the Postal Service later, retiring in 1979 as a postal supervisor. He has four children, Knight (now Marion Knight), Carolyn (now Carolyn Williams), David Richard, and Kenneth Raymond. They all have children of their own. Beginning his efforts to become a published poet after the death of his father in 1985, he has since been honored to read at the Fields of Earth Symposia, winning the Max Vestal Memorial award three times. Encouraged by the public readings he began submitting his work to other publishers. These gave further encouragement, he is now a member of several poetry organizations The National Author's Registry, Poertry.com, and The International Society of poets. A sample of his poetry may be read on the Internet. Just get on Poetry.Com and follow instructions.Shortly after obtaining an Epson computer sometime in 1988, he wrote a history of his childhood. Publication of the whole seemed impossible so he limited publication to the times he visited the farm of his father's parents. His small book was published in 1992. My Childhood's Eden was the only book he published until he won the poet of the year prize, part of which was publication of the chapbook entry, Walking in Another 's Shoes. This was followed by Happy Ever After, a tribute to his wife.Me and Jamie was the most fun to write but harder to sell, possibly due to its honestly horrendous grammar. The writer could hardly expect more, but he believes that wisdom can and does exist, quite apart from academic learning! The book could be helpful in demonstrating that correct use of the educated tongue is prerequisite to economic success. The writer believes it could be useful in closing the gap in the academic testing recently given. He believes that wisdom exists among completely uneducated people.
