About the Author

CHRIS ROJEK is Professor of Sociology and Culture at Nottingham Trent University, UK. He is the author of many books the most recent of which are Celebrity, Stuart Hall, and Frank Sinatra. In 2003 he was awarded the Allen V. Sapora Award for outstanding achievement in the field of Leisure Studies.

Review

' It is the first book I have read that systematically integrates the study of leisure within the general historical and theoretical framework of the human sciences. As such, it should find its proper place as one of the fundamentals of the study of leisure. Every serious student or faculty member in leisure studies, tourism studies and related fields ( e.g. hospitality) will want to read this book' - Dean MacCannell, University of California, Davis, USA
