Review

This book really does a good job of filling in some of the first-year gaps about clinical medicine that most first year medical students so desperately want to bridge. The case presentation section is phenomenal. I was very excited while reading the case because I really wanted to try to figure out what the person had before it was revealed in the basic science review section. Even more refreshing was the fact that the information is presented in such a manner so as not to be too immediately obvious as to the diagnosis, like a real patient might present. I just loved the very relevant questions that were presented at the end of each case. The explanations for each correct answer were extremely thorough and helpful. -- 3rd year medical student, Brody School of Medicine - East Carolina This book definitely has all of the nuts and bolts of Neuroscience from cover to cover. The cases are not too complex, yet they give you all of the crucial information needed for Step 1. The basic science review and the clinical correlates of each case is very well laid out and is probably the most important part of each section for study purposes. The Key Points is a helpful section that would be great for a quick review of the information a week before Step 1. ... The questions at the end of each case are helpful for studying. I particularly like how each answer is explained whether right or wrong. -- 3rd year medical student Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine The completeness of these cases amazed me. Students who use this book will be able to receive 'A's with minimal effort. This book does an extraordinary job of making difficult concepts easily understandable. The cases are easy to read, cover a variety of high-yield topics in extraordinary detail, and present the clinical applications of neurological pathways excellently. The major strength of this book is that it can stand alone as a study source. These cases represent the perfect blend of depth and complexity, presenting the material in a concise manner that is extraordinarily high-yield. -- 3rd year medical student Morehouse School of Medicine All of the pedagogical features are well-utilized. ... The thought questions are well-written and isolate the key points, and most of the discussion sections adequately answer them. The main ideas section at the end lets the student see the core concepts one more time. I would definitely recommend this to a first or second year student. I wish I had had it! -- 4th year student, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine This is an excellent work from the perspective of a student. It will provide early teaching on how neurological diseases present and will help the student working through problem-based learning. -- 3rd year student, University of Alberta
