The volume explores New Testament theology in three main ways.Firstly, it examines the development, purpose and scope of NewTestament theology. It then goes on to examine the relationship ofNew Testament theology with other branches of theology, such assystematic theology, biblical theology, practical theology andsocial scientific criticism. Finally, it looks at crucial issueswithin the New Testament, such as the historical Jesus, thetheology of the cross, eschatology, ethics and the role ofwomen.

The book is dedicated to and honours the work of Robert Morgan,whose pioneering work gives it its title.

About the Author:

Christopher Rowland is Dean Ireland’s Professor ofExegesis of Holy Scripture at the University of Oxford and a Fellowof Queen's College, Oxford. His previous publications includeThe Open Heaven (1982), The Book of Revelation(1998), Christian Origins (revised edition, 2002),Radical Christian Writings: A Reader (Blackwell, 2002), and,with Judith Kovacs, Revelation (Blackwell, 2004).


Christopher Tuckett is Professor of New Testament Studiesin the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Pembroke College,Oxford. His previous publications include The Revival of theGriesbach Hypothesis (1983), Reading the New Testament(1986), Q and the History of Early Christianity (1996),Luke (1996) and Christology and the New Testament(2001).
