Synopsis
On a beautiful crisp, winter morning Bear sets off up the mountain - because it's a perfect day for it! One by one his friends, Badger, Fox, Squirrel and Mole, unaware of the real reason for his expedition follow him - tramp, tramp, tramp - up the snowy mountain. Is he going for honeycomb, or snowballing, to look for bugs, or even search for treasure like they think? Oh, no. Bear is only interested in one thing and they soon find out what - 'climb aboard,' he shouts and off they go, sliding down the mountainside. Perfect!

About the Author
JAN FEARNLEY has written and illustrated many widely praised children's books, including Mr. Wolf and the Three Bears and Mr. Wolf's Pancakes. She lives in London.

Where is everyone headed? What would you do on a fine, frosty winter's day? When Bear sets off on his outing, no one knows exactly what that outing will be. But, of course, no one asks Bear where they are headed. Badger joins the jaunty crew, sure they are headed for bear's secret honey stash. Squirrel imagines a treasure hunt. And Mole foresees delicious worms. Narrator Brian Bowles does not betray Bear's trust. He animates each animal's thinking while maintaining Bear's secrecy. Bowles's pacing builds suspense, and then he lets out squeals, first of dismay and then of delight, when the surprise is revealed.
