But everyone, including Grandmother and Grandfather, Chocolate, Benz, Wonderful, Joy, Clarity and Common Sense, is much too busy to wave-jump! So, itâ€s just Anna Hibiscus and the white waves. “Oh! About the Author

Atinuke is an author and storyteller. She draws on many different inspirations, including her ancestry from Yoruba land, to tell stories from both the world of folktales and contemporary life. She has written many Anna Hibiscus Racing Read titles and has a new series entitled No. 1 Car Spotter. Anna Hibiscus' Song (9781406318333) was her first picture book title. She lives in Wales with her family. Lauren Tobia graduated from the University of the West of England with a degree in Illustration and was highly commended in the Macmillan Children's Book Prize. The early success of the Anna Hibiscus novels, which she illustrated, led to Lauren's first picture book, Anna Hibiscus' Song. She lives in Bristol with her family.

From School Library Journal

Gr 1–3—The irrepressible Anna is back in her seventh outing, but this time for a day at the beach with her extended family. Anna asks and asks, but everyone is too busy to splash in the waves with the little girl. Finally, there is no one left to ask. "There are only the waves jumping and splashing. They want to splash with somebody, too." Anna and the waves splash, jump, and play until her infectious laughter reaches her parents, aunties, uncle, cousins, and grandparents, who cannot resist jumping in the water. Atinuke's spot-on text is perfectly matched by Tobia's detailed illustrations, which feature joyful facial expressions. The images in the background hint at the African setting, but this story could easily take place in the Caribbean or the Outer Banks. This lovely story will leave readers pining for a family day in the sun.—Catherine Callegari, Gay-Kimball Library, Troy, NH
