Review:
A soul-warming treat. -- The Bookseller * The Bookseller * A beautifully crafted, whimsical and self-indulgent exploration of the concept of home, bouncing back and forth between a romanticised observation of reality and luscious fantasy worlds [...] With its rich illustrations and stunning design, this picturebook pays homage to the intrinsic beauty of this art form and is a treat for children and discerning parents alike. -- Simona Ciraolo * Inis Reading Guide 2015, Children's Books Ireland * the book is also an ode to the very notion of home-and where creatures in the world find comfort. -- Julie Danielson * Kirkus * A sweet reminder that despite our different walks of life, we have in common a shared longing to belong. -- Maria Popover * Brainpickings * Unusual and beautiful, stunningly designed. -- The Bookseller * The Bookseller * This beautiful book has fun with the notion of home and each page illustrates a different type of dwelling, and resident too (Norse god to Japanese businessman). It ends with a depiction of the author's own home, her studio full of items that have appeared in the previous pages! It's beautiful to look at and demands readers respond, directly asking `where is your home?' and indirectly inviting us to linger over the pictures, picking out the details and imagining life in this array of very different dwelling places. -- Andrea Reece * Love Reading 4 Kids * The book is a love letter, in many ways, to architecture, something Carson thinks about a lot. -- Julie Danielson * Kirkus * Every page opening is a surprise and a delight, and even after many viewings, this panoply of dwelling places continues to enthrall and intrigue the viewer. -- Valerie Coughlan * Children's books Ireland * ... glorious piece of book-creation. -- Valerie Coughlan * Children's Books Ireland * What emerges is a playful and tender reminder that however different our walks of life - what contrast there is between the Slovakian duchess's mansion and the Kenyan blacksmith's shack, between the babushka's kitchen and the artist's studio! - we are united by our deep desire for a place to call home. -- Maria Popover * Brainpickings * Ellis presents a dreamy, painterly meditation on the diversity and range of dwellings around the world and across time and imagination. -- Sarah Ellis * The Horn Book Magazine * It's a work that confers classic gifts: time to look and time to wonder. * Publishers Weekly * With the turn of every page, the definition of "home" broadens. -- John Lithgow * New York Times Sunday Book Review * Her sly humor and irreverent spirit only endear her to kids and grown-ups alike. -- John Lithgow * New York Times Sunday Book Review * There has been a boom in non-fiction, as publishers realise that facts can be fabulously illustrated. Symptomatic is Carson Ellis' Home, which introduces all sorts of houses [...] with strikingly elegant retro images. * The Sunday Times *
