Running is a fantastic cardiovascular workout that floods the body with 'feel good' endorphins and many runners find its rhythmic, repetitive nature a natural stress reliever and maybe even meditative. The downside of repetitive motion, however, is that it taxes a few select groups of muscles (hamstrings, quadriceps, hip flexors and Achilles) and neglects the remainder. This leads to muscular imbalances and, eventually, injury.

This book addresses these imbalances by using yoga postures to both stretch and lengthen these short, tight running hotspots in a way that is time-efficient and highly targeted.

About the Author:

Lexie Williamson is a British Wheel of Yoga (2008 and Yoga Sports Science (2010) qualified instructor specializing in yoga for runners and cyclists. She teaches a weekly Yoga for Runners and Cyclists class and Yoga for Runners, Cyclists and Triathletes workshops across Surrey. She writes for running and cycling magazines including Runner's World, Triathlete's World, Cycling Active, Cycling Plus and Outdoor Fitness.

I highly recommend Lexie Williamson's book for runners because it is designed specifically for them. "Yoga for Runners "is laid out well, with photos to demonstrate each pose and yoga sequence. I specifically like how Williamson shows a pose and then includes information on which muscles that pose targets plus how to perform the pose and with how many breathes.
