Hawk Dancer is part one of a two book novel. I often wondered how life be if the schools, Churches and other institutes got serious about inculturation and the promotion of Indigenous Cultures (Native American) within our modern social structures, schools, universities, hospitals, main line religions and so forth.
My grand and greatgrand parents began such a venture at the approach of the 20th century and well neigh 1978 when the American Indian Freedom of Religion law was passed; Aug. 11.
Hawk Dancer, and its follow up companion novel, Cloudburst, are works of historical fiction. The fictional residents of Birch Clump Village and the Native American founders of an indigenous Francican Friary take up stories shared with me about the ups and downs of intercultural relations in modern USA and Canadian history.
Are racial mascots respecting of Native culture or are they a form of cultural slavery? Some misconceptions of Native religious praying traditions are addressed. How can we reverse the historical trend towards cultural genocide and become open to Natives promoting their own cultural images?
This is the first (1st) edition retired from publication April 7, 2011. The second edition was issued in May 2011. The second edition is improved in quality, page layout and enhanced illustrations. New copies of the 2nd Edition have a more favorable price.
