Synopsis
Problems, problems, problems! All Mike Harmon ever wanted to be was a SEAL. But after problems in the teams, college student was a decent second best. However, trouble seemed to follow him where he went. Now, after having angered every terrorist on Earth and at least five governments, buying a farm in a third world country was looking pretty good. Of course, nothing was ever simple. With Chechen terrorists knocking on the door and tenant farmers with a truly Byzantine culture, the question was whether he could drag the keldara into the 21st century before the Chechen put them back in the 6th. Kildar answers the question: Where would an international security specialist and former SEAL choose to retire-if he's going to buy the farm, it should be one with beautiful women and the best beer in the world. About the Author
John Ringo is the New York Times best-selling author of the Black Tide Rising series, the Posleen War series, the Through the Looking Glass series, and more, including the Troy Rising series, of which Live Free or Die is the first installment. A veteran of the 82nd Airborne, Ringo brings firsthand knowledge of military operations to his fiction.

Mike Harmon, the former Navy SEAL who stumbled on a jihadist plot to destroy America's morale in a particularly nasty manner in Ghost (2005), makes a welcome return in this entertaining sequel, which again is more techno-thriller than SF. When Harmon gets lost in a blizzard in Georgia (the country, not the state), he's saved by a young girl who takes him to a remote valley, which he purchases. Harmon develops a semifeudal relationship with the local mountain tribe, the Keldara, which he organizes into a militia for defense against Chechen raiders. He comes to learn much of their customs and history, but there are still secrets the Keldara keep even from the kildar, the tribe's ruler. In his role as warlord, Harmon is increasingly tempted to yield to the same dark side that plagued him in Ghost. As in his military SF, Ringo explores the moral complexities the warrior faces, giving fair warning that the road to hell is easy. (Mar.)
