Synopsis
This book provides a record of my life events, with personal thoughts and opinions, beginning in America's Iowa Heartland, and then encompassing significant events in Arizona, Oklahoma, California, Pennsylvania and the Enchanted Land of New Mexico. The book is based on recorded information, data and personal knowledge related to family genealogy, midwestern agriculture, medicine, orthopaedic surgery, family events and travel experiences. Efforts to replace my beloved Dorothy, who died of breast cancer, let to romantic sagas, and final success with marriage to Karen. The pre-World War II farm life that I describe has now markedly changed. Modem medicine is constantly making strides for diagnoses and for medical and surgical treatment successes. Some methods to meet a marriage partner have changed, but time-honored methods continue to be sound. An adolescent dream of world travel was achieved by attending surgical and medical conventions and by joining travel groups visiting cities and countries on six continents. Readers can compare their future travel experiences to my travel experiences and observations.The transition to a "retired" lifestyle permitted the opportunity of supporting charitable causes after a long professional career at the Lovelace Sandia Health System in New Mexico. About the Author
Turner, an Iowa Hawkeye,experienced pre-World War II farm, family and school life and then utilizedbeekeeping, hard physical jobs and scholarships to complete premedical andmedical studies at the University of Iowa.Marriage to Dorothy Burgess ledto shared adventures in Arizona, Oklahoma,and Pennsylvania while interning,serving Cherokees as a physician and completing an orthopaedicsurgery residency.Professional practice at Albuquerque'sLovelace Medical Center, in the Land of Enchantment, included surgicalcontributions, administrative responsibilities and roles in medical practicechanges. Dorothy's death from cancer preceded his soul-mate search culminatingin marriage with Karen Howard and blending of two families. He writes ofcherished memories, old loves and personal beliefs, hoping a reader will feelacquainted with him.
