Hugues de Montalembert is born into an old aristocratic family in Normandy, France. 1968 After the student riots in Paris, leaves for New York and works for the United Nations. 1971 Assistant Director to the film "I a dancer" about Rudolph Nuryev. 1972 Documentary about hard drug abuse in New York. 1973 Coverage of the war in Vietnam. 1974 Extensive travels in South East Asia for two years, including several months sailing with Bugis fishermen in Indonesia. 1976 Co-Director for more than a year in Dahomey (Benin) on a 8 hours documentary "Portrait of an African country". 1977 Spends a year painting in Tangier (Morocco). 1978 Returns to New York and while living there, working as an artist, is mugged and looses his sight. 1980 travels alone to Indonesia and writes his first book. 1982 Publication of the best seller "Eclipse", translated into many languages. The book is about the two years following his loss of sight and his return to life. In the following years he travels in the Himalayas and writes his second book "A Perte De Vue" (not translated). Early 90's writes synopses and stages several ballets (solos and pas de deux) in Italy, France, Poland, Egypt. 1994 Lives in St. Petersburg researching at the Kirov|Mariinsky Ballet, for a third book. Concurrently writes articles and shorts stories for different international publications. 1995 and 2001 Lectures at Xian (China) University of Foreign Languages. 2006 "Black Sun" a film directed by Gary Tarn, Synopsis based on his book "Eclipse" - narration by Hugues de Montalembert. 2007 Chinese edition of "Eclipse" published in the People's Republic of China.
