Notwithstanding a demeanor that sometimes seemed grim, even dour, he had a subtle sense of humor that occasionally manifested itself surprisingly. Never acquiring great material wealth, his treasure was in his family - his progeny - none of whom ever gave him cause for shame. Jasper's name will not be entered in history books, but those who knew him will remember this semi-precious stone - this solid rock of Gibraltar who influenced their lives. He was a taciturn man speaking only when he had something of substance to add to the conversation. The delft blue on the cover is in recognition of his Dutch mother, Nancy Bardmas Kellogg. In this writer's opinion today's world could use more persons of their ilk.

About the Author:

Edwinna Lucille Kellogg was born in Kansas in 1904, attended Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, taught public schools for three years, and was married to Arthur Paul Sharon in 1929. With their two daughters, Edwinna Leigh and Jacquelin Jean, they moved to California in 1933. "Eddie" passed away in 1969. After Paul's death in 1973 Lucille (Lou) enrolled in an autobiography writing course at Napa College (California). The result was her book ONCE UPON A LIFETIME.That was the beginning of her writing career at age sixty-nine. After self-publishing her autobiography, she collaborated with artist Shari Fiock in a children's coloring book of verse. Lou had made up verse and songs since age five. Later she attended Fairhaven College, at Western Washington University at Bellingham. Here she concentrated on poetry writing. She has written enough poems to make a large volume of "Collected Works" and received prizes and awards. Her work has been published in THE WRITERS COMPANION, THE OWN OBSERVER, JEOPARDY, KANHISTIQUE, LIVING STREAMS, DRAGONFLY, and numerous NEW HORIZONS POETRY CLUB anthologies. She called Yreka, California home and enjoyed living near her daughter, Jackie Ewing, visiting grandchildren and great grandchildren.
