About the Author

Grade 4-6-An enjoyable sports story about 11-year-old fraternal twins Dusk and Dawn and an opportunity to win a million dollars by shooting a goal after a Montreal Canadiens hockey game. The prologue, told in a dialogue, consists of an argument between the siblings concerning who will tell the story best. Ultimately, Dawn narrates, with occasional humorous interjections from Dusk. She describes how they help their colorful and feisty grandmother practice daily to make the prize-winning shot. Gutman does an admirable job of showing how the children develop empathy and an appreciation for the 80-year-old woman who often embarrasses them by cussing ("bleeping") or farting in front of their friends. Readers who make it past the prologue will be surprised at the twists and turns in the plot. Purchase for hockey fans and where the author's Million Dollar Shot (1997) and Million Dollar Kick (2001, both Hyperion) are popular.
