About the Author:
Victoria Thompson was born in Alexandria, Egypt, of French, Italian, Spanish and English parentage. She grew up speaking five languages and was educated at The Sacred Heart Girl's Convent. After King Farouk was exiled, Victoria and her parents left Egypt and came to live in Australia. Victoria trained as an actress and worked in film, television and theatre. She left acting to study psychology and became a psychotherapist. She eventually returned to her love of books and writing. Losing Alexandria was published in 1998 by Picador/Pan Macmillan Australia and was a literary success, spending several weeks on the Melbourne Age bestseller list. She has also worked as an interpreter in the medical profession, as a yoga teacher, and has travelled all over the world with her husband, a filmmaker and critic, making prize winning documentaries. Her next book is City of Longing. She is working on another autobiographical novel, The Sadness of Men.
