Book Review: MANHATTAN SEEDS OF THE BIG APPLE -I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your book, "Manhattan Seeds of the Big Apple" book. My 9th Great Grandfather was Abraham Pietersen Van Deusen b.Nov. 6, 1602, who came to New Amsterdam and was a Miller for the Dutch West India Co. He was involved in several businesses including Cattle and in l648 he was one of l2 tavern keepers in New Amsterdam. In l655 after a suprise attack by Indians Abraham Pietersen Van Deusen subscribed voluntarily 6 guilders for strengthening wall (Wall St.) I have pretty much the whole history of this family. A very interesting branch of my family tree. Thank you for bringing those days of my 9th great-grandfather to life so I could see and feel how he lived back in those times.-Frank Bennett-New YorkAuthor's note: Waldron and Pieterson Van Deusen were indeed neighbors. Waldron on Block B and Abraham Pietersen Van Deusen living on Block C in New Amsterdam.More information at gloriawaldronhukle.nameClick this link to read a review of Manhattan: Seeds of the Big Apple. In 1653, lower Manhattan was a Dutch community of about 120 houses, its people protected by a fort and a log wall which stood as a defense against Indian attacks. Today's Wall Street follows the line of that ancient plank wall. Sheriff Resolved Waldron, his wife, Tennake, and their three children lived at the present day crossing of Wall Street and Broadway. There along with them on Block B, across the street from the Dutch West India Company's enormous garden, resided Augustine Herrman, Peter Schaefbanck, the jailor, Hendrick Hendricksen, and Domine (clergy) Samuel Drisius. These were but a few of America's first immigrants. This is their story.

From the Author:
I hope you enjoy "Manhattan Seeds of the Big Apple" the result of a fascinating historical journey that filled eight years of my life. People come from all over the world to enjoy the Manhattan glam sites of today, but for Americans New York City is far more than Broadway shows and shopping. New York City is our beating heart-a heart without a doubt that beats for the world. I am a people person and a time traveler and as such was inspired to write this book because I knew that few ever heard the voices of New York's early settlers or that one could actually go back to visit a real place that exhisted prior to modern glam. For example St. Mark's church which is located on the original country farm property of Peter Stuyvesant is a today visual not to be missed. Stuyvesant along with his flamboyant wife, Judith, and their family are buried beneath the church, and the stained glass window of Director General Stuyvesant within the church truly takes one back to the days of old Dutch ruled New Amsterdam. Another still viewable historical site not far away is that of the Bowne house in Flushing, Queens. In my novel you will meet Stuyvesant and Judith as well as the determined, courageous English merchant, John Bowne and his Quaker wife Hannah. Their home where he was arrested by Resolved Waldron ( who was my ancestral grandfather) still stands today. The Bowne arrest, trial and determination considered by many to be the first case of religious freedom in America. "Manhattan Seeds of the Big Apple" is a story about a mix of peoples from all over the globe. Some came freely; others were forced into a foreign land. African slaves would build our first roads, tend northern plantation crops and households. As a historical novelist it was impossible for me to write an American novel without incorporating those who had helped build this country but had no documented voice so I created the house slaves, Sarah and Jacob. Izaac Abrahamsen one of the first Jews to arrive is brought back to life. Today, almost four hundred years later we continue to be a mix of global peoples who struggle to understand one another. Still, we are America -one nation under God.
