Pepperdine University Students Tell It Like It Is
"There are many valid ways of looking at Pepperdine. Most conspicuous are the appealing aesthetics of surf, palm trees, and bikinis. Then there are the small class sizes, good teachers, and great international programs that comprise the core of Pepperdine's esteemed academics. Finally, there is the Christian affiliation that delights many among the student body, even as it annoys others. I certainly could have used more clarification on all of these things four years ago when, armed with the impressions I had gleaned from a daydream at a college fair, an obscure comedy sketch on TV, and the oblivious insights of friends and acquaintances, I made the rash but momentous decision to apply to Pepperdine University. The contrasting and objective student perspectives this guidebook presents on all aspects of life at Pepperdine should allow you to see the school in a more three-dimensional and accurate way, and thus allow you to decide whether the real Pepperdine-not just the one in the brochures-is really a good fit for you."

"You know the campus housing is pretty impressive when such an affluent student body as Pepperdine's tends to lob terms like 'palace' and 'castle' around to describe it. Indeed, freshman dorms well reflect the University's eagerness to ensconce its students in comfort and splendor. Folks expecting dingy halls stacked in tall, shabby buildings will likely be taken aback by the well-lit and freshly-painted opulence that awaits them. Freshmen luxuriate in suites of four bedrooms (two students to a room), a large double bathroom, and a pleasant living area replete with television and a picture window offering Pepperdine's most treasured asset, the ocean view. Friendly janitors clean the bathrooms and living areas daily."
But what about the student body?
"I think that no Pepperdine student will disagree with me when I say that a person would be hard put to find a college campus with a higher percentage of absolutely gorgeous people. It's like being in a movie sometimes."
"I dare you to find an ugly person on the campus. Pepperdine attracts beautiful people."
How do the students feel about their choice of college overall?
"The religious emphasis was a bit much for me, but the quality people that I met and the amazing experiences, both academic and social, were worth it for me. I'm glad to have gone to Pepperdine."

Steve Pinkerton grew up in Oregon, but eventually forsook that state s damp embrace for the sunny climes of Southern California. More recently he s taken to the hills of Boulder, Colorado, where he s toiling towards an MA in English literature.
