Illinois Wesleyan University Students Tell It Like It Is
Comedian Andy Dick attended, but did not graduate from Illinois Wesleyan University - but don't let this stop you from applying. Plenty of other alumni went on to succeed where Dick didn't, including U.S. Senator Scott Lucas, Indie musician Andrew Bird, and Bill Damaschke, Head of Creative Production and Development at Dreamworks Animation.
Students at Illinois Wesleyan agree that the teachers are one of the most important aspects of their college life.
"It varies from class to class, but generally there is a nice balance between interesting subject matter and enthusiastic professors."
"Professors definitely care about your progress and are really helpful."
What's good in the hood? Does fun bloom in Bloomington?
The good news is that while central Illinois is prone to tornadoes, Bloomington has never experienced a direct hit because it exists on a low-lying land surrounded by rolling hills, which creates a valley. The bad news is that Bloomington is a relatively small town. You won't find as many happenings as you would in a big city like Chicago or St. Louis (both 2 and a half hours away).
"I haven't visited the town very much, probably only three or four times. I stay busy on campus."
"Bloomington-Normal is like the Reno of the Midwest: Not the most exciting place in the area, but certainly more interesting than most of the surrounding country."
What about fraternities and sororities? Do they dominate the campus?
"You could go your whole four years without entering a frat and not feel like you've missed much."
"Greek life is somewhat popular, but lots of people don't join."
Visiting campus isn't enough.
